Exciting speculations surrounding the Samsung Galaxy S24 series have emerged, particularly focusing on the crucial component that will drive these flagship smartphones: the chipset.
According to reports from South Korean outlet The Elec (via GSMArena), the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus will be powered by either the Exynos 2400 CPU or the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, depending on the region. Meanwhile, the S24 Ultra will feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 across all markets.
The question of how much Samsung will rely on its own chipsets versus those manufactured by Qualcomm arises every year. In fact, the rumors surrounding the Galaxy S24 in this regard have already begun circulating.
The Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus, and Galaxy S23 Ultra all utilize the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 from Qualcomm. On the other hand, the Galaxy S23 FE employs the older Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in the US and Samsung’s own Exynos 2200 processor elsewhere.
A Dual-Chipset Tale
What we can confirm is that the Samsung Exynos 2400 chipset is certainly on its way. Samsung announced its arrival during a special technology preview, promising a 1.7x overall performance boost and a remarkable 14.7x improvement in AI performance compared to its predecessor, the Exynos 2200.
As highlighted by The Elec, the Exynos 2300 was never released due to stability and speed-related issues, leading to the Galaxy S23’s reliance on Qualcomm. In contrast, the Samsung Galaxy S22 employed a combination of the Exynos 2200 and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
While Samsung has consistently aimed to incorporate its own chipsets into its devices, striving to create superior products similar to Apple and Google, it has faced challenges in matching the performance of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon offerings with the Exynos line.
Only time will tell if Samsung manages to bridge this gap in 2024. The launch of the Galaxy S24 phones is expected in January or February, and unofficial renders of these handsets have already surfaced, providing a glimpse into their potential design.
